See how Google’s AI Overviews show up for your brand, which of your pages they cite, and which sources they pull in instead. No signup required. Results in seconds.
Google’s AI Overviews are AI-generated summaries that appear above the traditional search results. They answer the query in a few sentences, pull information from multiple sources, and include links to those sources for further reading.
Under the hood, AI Overviews use retrieval-augmented generation (RAG): rather than relying only on what the model already knows, Google fetches fresh pages from its index and Gemini synthesizes them into one answer, then attaches citations to the pages it used. That’s how a brand earns visibility here — by being one of the sources Google grounds the answer in.
We don’t guess about AI Overviews — we study them at scale. Two findings shape why tracking matters.
Run on December 2025 data, AI Overviews reduce clicks by 58% to the top-ranking pages, up from 34.5% in April 2025. For every 100 clicks you used to earn, Google now keeps 58.
AI Overviews are highly volatile: a 70% chance of changing between observations, content lasting ~2.15 days, and nearly half (45.5%) of cited sources entirely new each time. A one-off check goes stale in days.
Both are Google, but they’re not the same surface, and a brand that wins one can be invisible in the other. The simplest way to hold them apart:
A generated summary at the top of the normal results page — the classic blue links still sit below it. Quick, glanceable, and it appears for only a slice of queries. This tool tracks AI Overviews.
A separate, fully conversational experience where the answer is the page, with follow-ups and a much smaller set of cited sources. No blue links to fall back on.

We don’t fabricate prompts. AI Overviews results come from real search behavior run through Google and stored in Brand Radar, across two complementary indexes.
Our original AI Overviews index uses short keywords from Ahrefs’ Keywords Explorer — the way most people actually search Google. It’s the broadest view of where AI Overviews surface your brand.
People also ask AI full questions, not just keywords. Our newer prompt-based AI Overviews index tracks responses to long-form questions, the same way our ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Copilot indexes work. You can also track your own custom prompts.
AI Overviews refresh continuously, in step with Ahrefs’ keyword-database update cycles. That matters: our research shows an AI Overview has a 70% chance of changing between observations, so a one-off look goes stale fast.
Coverage is strongest in English. Metrics like AI Share of Voice are modeled visibility signals — potential exposure, not measured audience reach.

Ahrefs AI Overviews Tracker shows where you stand today. Getting cited is what comes next. Ahrefs’ research points to six factors that help you show up more often in Google’s AI Overviews.
AI Overviews can hallucinate. Check what they say about you in Brand Radar, then fix gaps and inconsistent brand assets (logos, taglines, third-party profiles) so Google has accurate sources to pull from.
In Ahrefs’ study of 75,000 brands, branded web mentions had the strongest link to AI visibility. The more the web mentions you, the more AI Overviews surface you. Chase "best of" lists, reviews, roundups and digital PR.
AI Overviews lean on Reddit, Quora and YouTube (Google owns YouTube and partners with Reddit). Be genuinely active on the platforms they trust.
Put the direct answer at the top of each section, not buried below setup. That makes it easy for an AI Overview to lift a clean, complete snippet.
Gemini, which powers AI Overviews, prefers fresher content. Find declining pages in Site Explorer and update them on a cadence.
AI Overviews show up most for informational, longer-tail queries. Cover those topic clusters so you’re an answer to more of them.
