Just plug the URL into the URL Inspection tool. If it says \u201cURL is on Google\u201d then it\u2019s indexed. Submit your sitemap to Google<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Even if some of your pages show in a Google site: search, there\u2019s a chance Google may not have all of your pages indexed. This can happen because they don\u2019t know they exist due to a lack of <a href=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/internal-links-for-seo\/\">internal links<\/a> (more on that&nbsp;later!).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But even if an important page has no internal links, it should still be in your sitemap. Check that you\u2019re not blocking Google from indexing your&nbsp;site<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>If you tell Google not to show certain pages in the search results, then it won\u2019t.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You do that with a \u201cnoindex\u201d meta tag, which is a piece of HTML code that looks like&nbsp;this:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-code\"><code>&lt;meta name=\"robots\" content=\"noindex\"\/&gt;<\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>Pages with that code won\u2019t be indexed, even if you created a sitemap and submitted it in Google Search Console.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You probably don\u2019t recall ever adding that code to any of your pages, but that doesn\u2019t mean it isn\u2019t&nbsp;there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For example, WordPress adds it to every page if you check the wrong box when setting up your&nbsp;site.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1170\" height=\"286\" src=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/dont-check-this-in-wordpress-if-you-want-your-sit.png\" alt=\"Don't check this in WordPress if you want your site to show up in Google\" class=\"wp-image-181759\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/dont-check-this-in-wordpress-if-you-want-your-sit.png 1170w, https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/dont-check-this-in-wordpress-if-you-want-your-sit-680x166.png 680w, https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/dont-check-this-in-wordpress-if-you-want-your-sit-768x188.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1170px) 100vw, 1170px\"><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To check for noindexed pages, sign up for a free <a href=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/webmaster-tools\">Ahrefs Webmaster Tools (AWT)<\/a> account and crawl your website with <a href=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/site-audit\">Site Audit<\/a>. Check that you\u2019re not blocking Google from crawling<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Google can\u2019t crawl URLs blocked in your <a href=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/robots-txt\/\">robots.txt<\/a> file, which usually results in them not showing up in search results.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you\u2019ve submitted your sitemap via Google Search Console, it should alert you about issues related to this. Check that all important pages are internally linked<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Internal links are links from one page on your site to another. If pages don\u2019t have any internal links, the only way Google can find them is through your sitemap (or via backlinks). But often, Google still won\u2019t index them as pages without internal links (also known as <a href=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/orphan-pages\/\">orphan pages<\/a>) are rarely seen as important.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Think about it this way: if there are no internal links to a page, then visitors on your site can\u2019t find it. If visitors on your site can\u2019t find it, why would Google bother indexing it? You\u2019re literally telling Google it isn\u2019t useful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Finding pages without internal links can be technically challenging, but you can find most of them using Ahrefs\u2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/site-audit\">Site Audit<\/a>. It\u2019s perfectly possible to show up higher in Google when you have fewer backlinks than competitors when your backlinks are higher quality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In Ahrefs, we have a \u201cBest links\u201d filter in Site Explorer that will show you, well\u2026 the target\u2019s best links only. Check that your pages match \u201csearch intent\u201d<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Search intent is what the searcher is looking for when they Google the keyword you want to rank for. If your pages don\u2019t align with this, Google isn\u2019t going to rank it. This is because Google\u2019s entire job is to give searchers what they&nbsp;want.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>How do you figure out search intent? If that\u2019s the case for your keyword, try plugging your keyword into Ahrefs\u2019 Keywords Explorer and hitting the \u201cIdentify intents\u201d button on the SERP.
