It\u2019s&nbsp;here.&nbsp;<\/div>\n<p>YouTube is the world\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/sparktoro.com\/blog\/2018-search-market-share-myths-vs-realities-of-google-bing-amazon-facebook-duckduckgo-more\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">2nd largest search engine<\/a>, with over one billion hours of video watched daily.<\/p>\n<p>But the question is, what are people searching for?<\/p>\n<p>And what should you create videos about?<\/p>\n<p>Keyword research is the only way to answer that, but unfortunately, there\u2019s no official research tool for YouTube as <a href=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/google-keyword-planner\/\">there is with Google<\/a>. It adds a sidebar to the YouTube UI with additional keyword data.<\/p>\n<p>On the search results, you\u2019ll see the \u201cSearch Explorer\u201d overlay. This shows estimated global search volume, competition, and an overall keyword score out of 100. According to TubeBuddy, their keyword score tells you \u201chow good a keyword is to target based on search volume and competition.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"recommendation\"><div class=\"recommendation-title\">IMPORTANT NOTE<\/div><div class=\"recommendation-content\">\n<p>TubeBuddy doesn\u2019t explain how they gauge competition, so take this with a pinch of&nbsp;salt.<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019ve also found that their search volumes estimates are often overinflated. This shows a bunch of stats about the video and publisher (e.g., social shares across major social networks, the number of videos on the channel, etc.).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"900\" height=\"464\" class=\"wp-image-29567\" src=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/videolytics.png\" alt=\"videolytics\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/videolytics.png 900w, https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/videolytics-768x396.png 768w, https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/videolytics-680x351.png 680w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px\"><\/p>\n<p>It also tells you if the uploader has followed \u201cbest optimization practices,\u201d and pulls the full list of video&nbsp;tags.<\/p>\n<p>You can copy and save tags to a list with a couple of clicks.<\/p>\n<p>This is useful when trying to build up a list of tags for a video. Just look for common and relevant tags across top-ranking videos, add them to a tags list, then copy-paste the final list into the tags section of your&nbsp;video.<\/p>\n<p>Tag lists get deduped automatically, so you won\u2019t end up pasting a list of duplicate tags.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s also worth noting that TubeBuddy does suggest tags when you upload a&nbsp;video.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"901\" height=\"748\" class=\"wp-image-29547\" src=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/tubebuddy-tags-suggestions.png\" alt=\"tubebuddy tags suggestions\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/tubebuddy-tags-suggestions.png 901w, https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/tubebuddy-tags-suggestions-768x638.png 768w, https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/tubebuddy-tags-suggestions-512x425.png 512w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 901px) 100vw, 901px\"><\/p>\n<p>Beyond tags, another useful TubeBuddy feature is their rank tracker tool.<\/p>\n<p>Here, you can track YouTube search rankings for yours and your competitors\u2019 videos. In the search results, it shows search volume, competition, overall keyword score, related queries, keyword stats, and the tags&nbsp;from the top-ranking videos.<\/p>\n<p>vidIQ doesn\u2019t tell us the precise formula they use for the \u201ccompetition\u201d score. However, they do state they look at the \u201ctotal amount of engagements (across YouTube, Reddit, Twitter, Facebook), view velocity of that video, and&nbsp;views.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On video results, the stats you see are almost identical to TubeBuddy.<\/p>\n<p>However, one small but useful difference is the ability to export video tags to CSV in a single click (without adding to tags lists&nbsp;first).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"466\" height=\"140\" class=\"wp-image-29584\" src=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/video-tags-export.png\" alt=\"video tags export\"><\/p>\n<p>vidIQ also shows channel tags alongside video tags, whereas TubeBuddy doesn\u2019t.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"392\" height=\"124\" class=\"wp-image-29580\" src=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/channel-tags.png\" alt=\"channel tags\"><\/p>\n<p>This is useful for getting a sense of the main topics a channel covers, and whether it\u2019s worth analyzing more of their videos for potential video&nbsp;ideas.<\/p>\n<p>Like TubeBuddy, vidIQ also suggests tags when you upload a&nbsp;video.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"900\" height=\"358\" class=\"wp-image-29590\" src=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/vidiq-recommended-tags.png\" alt=\"vidiq recommended tags\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/vidiq-recommended-tags.png 900w, https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/vidiq-recommended-tags-768x305.png 768w, https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/vidiq-recommended-tags-680x270.png 680w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px\"><\/p>\n<p>All in all, most of the functionality between vidIQ and TubeBuddy is so similar that it mostly comes down to personal preference.<\/p>\n<p>But one unique feature worth mentioning is their trending videos feature, specifically for channels.<\/p>\n<p>What this allows you to do is see any competing channel\u2019s top videos by view velocity (i.e., the average views per&nbsp;hour).<\/p>\n<p>To see it, head over to the channel\u2019s page and hit the \u201cTrending\u201d tab.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"900\" height=\"338\" class=\"wp-image-29552\" src=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/trending-vid-iq.png\" alt=\"trending vid iq\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/trending-vid-iq.png 900w, https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/trending-vid-iq-768x288.png 768w, https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/trending-vid-iq-680x255.png 680w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px\"><\/p>\n<p>This information is valuable because newly-published YouTube videos tend to get most of their traction in the first 48 hours\u2014which is when YouTube promotes the video to subscribers.<\/p>\n<p>After that, if the video performed well, it gets promoted to other audiences via browse features.<\/p>\n<p>This is important. After that, it costs a few dollars per&nbsp;month.<\/p>\n<p>So how does this tool&nbsp;work?<\/p>\n<p>Unlike TubeBuddy and vidIQ, Morning Fame does keyword research in a four-step process. The idea is to go through this whenever you want to create a new video, and it begins with choosing a&nbsp;topic.<\/p>\n<p>There are two ways to do this. What\u2019s more, it doesn\u2019t show actual search volumes but rather a score between 0-100. Just look at the related queries section.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"445\" height=\"330\" class=\"wp-image-29582\" src=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/rising-searches.png\" alt=\"rising searches\"><\/p>\n<p>These are all queries that have seen an increase in searches recently on YouTube.<\/p>\n<h2>6. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">YouTube<\/a>&nbsp;(Autosuggest)<\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"492\" height=\"372\" class=\"wp-image-29577\" src=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/youtube-autosuggest.png\" alt=\"youtube autosuggest\"><\/p>\n<p>Head over to YouTube and type any keyword into the search box.<\/p>\n<p>You should see a dropdown like&nbsp;above.<\/p>\n<p>These suggestions are based on relevant queries people have previously searched on YouTube, and they\u2019re a great source of inspiration for videos.<\/p>\n<p>For example, if I type \u201cvegetarian,\u201d I see results like \u201cvegetarian ramen\u201d and \u201cvegetarian lasagna,\u201d which are great ideas for standalone videos.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"258\" height=\"274\" class=\"wp-image-29585\" src=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/vegetarian-youtube.png\" alt=\"vegetarian youtube\"><\/p>\n<p>For even more ideas, use an underscore (_) between words. This acts as a wildcard.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"256\" height=\"217\" class=\"wp-image-29550\" src=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/wildcard-search.png\" alt=\"wildcard search\"><\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, YouTube doesn\u2019t show search volumes. Well, it scrapes the autosuggest results for the keyword you search for. But it also appends and prepends the query with various letters and numbers, and scrapes the autosuggest results for&nbsp;those.<\/p>\n<p>It then divides the keywords into four&nbsp;tabs:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Keyword Suggestions: <\/strong>All autosuggest keywords&nbsp;(excluding those formatted as questions).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Questions<\/strong>: Autosuggest keywords formatted as questions.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Prepositions:<\/strong>&nbsp;Autosuggest keywords containing propositions (from, for, after, etc.). Note that you can also see these in the <em>Keyword Suggestions<\/em>&nbsp;tab.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Hashtags<\/strong>: Autosuggest keywords with hashtags.
