Just hit the download icon.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"380\" height=\"214\" class=\"wp-image-26576\" src=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/search-console-report-download.jpg\" alt=\"search console report download\"><\/p>\n<p>Now let\u2019s talk about the downsides of using Google Search Console data:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>All reports are limited to the top 1,000 pages. <\/strong>That makes them somewhat pointless if you have more than 1,000 pages on your website, or if you have links from more than 1,000 unique domains.<\/li>\n<li><strong>No link context. <\/strong>There\u2019s no way to see the anchor text of a specific link, the surrounding text, or whether or not it\u2019s nofollowed, etc.<\/li>\n<li><strong>No quality metrics<\/strong>. When Google says \u201ctop linking sites,\u201d they\u2019re not referring to the quality of said websites but simply the number of times they link to you. There\u2019s no way to tell how good or bad any of the linking sites are, or whether they\u2019re helpful or harmful when it comes to&nbsp;SEO.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>To fill in the gaps, we\u2019ll need to resort to another tool.<\/p>\n<div class=\"sidenote\"><div class=\"sidenote-title\">Sidenote.<\/div> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bing.com\/toolbox\/webmaster\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bing Webmaster Tools<\/a>&nbsp;also gives you some information about links to your website. It\u2019s free to sign&nbsp;up.&nbsp;<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"site-explorer\">2. For now, let\u2019s just say that they\u2019re useful for learning more about specific backlinks and linking websites.<\/p>\n<h2>What to do&nbsp;next<\/h2>\n<p>The truth is that merely knowing who links to your website isn\u2019t that useful or insightful.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s a bit like looking at someone\u2019s Facebook friends. You\u2019ll get a list of hundreds or thousands of people, but that\u2019s all. There\u2019s no telling their real friends apart from the \u201cfriends\u201d they\u2019ve never met in real life. There\u2019s a lack of context.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m going to assume that you ended up finding and reading this article because:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>You heard that links matter for&nbsp;SEO.<\/li>\n<li>You wanted to know how many links you already have, and who they\u2019re from.<\/li>\n<li>You ultimately want more links to boost your site\u2019s performance in the search engines and <a href=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/how-to-drive-traffic-to-your-website\/\" data-ahr=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/increase-website-traffic\/\">get more traffic<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If I\u2019m way off, close this tab and go about the rest of your day. No hard feelings.<\/p>\n<p>Otherwise, let\u2019s go over a few actionable ways you can use link data to improve your SEO and get more organic traffic.<\/p>\n<h3>1. Build and nurture relationships&nbsp;with serial linkers<\/h3>\n<p>People who link to your website time and time again are known as <em>serial linkers<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>These are people with whom you likely already have good relationships. Replicate competitors\u2019 links<\/h3>\n<p>No two websites or web pages have identical link profiles.<\/p>\n<p>You have some backlinks that your competitors don\u2019t have, but more importantly, your competitors have some that you don\u2019t have. But it\u2019s a good starting point.<\/p>\n<div class=\"recommendation\"><div class=\"recommendation-title\">WHY KEYWORD DIFFICULTY?<\/div><div class=\"recommendation-content\">\n<p>Keyword Difficulty (KD) a metric that estimates the \u201cdifficulty\u201d of ranking for a keyword on a 100-point scale, and it\u2019s derived solely from looking at the number of backlinks to the current top-ranking pages.<\/p>\n<p>For example, if the current top ranking pages for a keyword look like&nbsp;this:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Page #1:<\/strong> 365 backlinks from unique websites (referring domains)<br>\n<strong>Page #2:<\/strong> 213 backlinks from unique websites (referring domains)<br>\n<strong>Page #3:<\/strong> 199 backlinks from unique websites (referring domains)<br>\n\u2026<\/p>\n<p>Then the Keyword Difficulty score for that keyword is going to be higher than if the top ranking pages looked like&nbsp;this:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Page #1:<\/strong> 21 backlinks from unique websites (referring domains)<br>\n<strong>Page #2:<\/strong> 13 backlinks from unique websites (referring domains)<br>\n<strong>Page #3:<\/strong> 2 backlinks from unique websites (referring domains)<br>\n\u2026<\/p>\n<p>So, to clarify, we\u2019re looking for keywords with a low KD score here because we\u2019ll likely need fewer backlinks in other to rank for&nbsp;them.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<p>You can also search in <a href=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/content-explorer\">Content Explorer<\/a>&nbsp;for a keyword or phrase related to your site\u2019s topic, then filter for pages with organic traffic, but few referring domains.<\/p>\n<p><em>Content Explorer &gt; enter query &gt; filter for fewer than 5 RDs &gt; filter for more than 500 organic visits per&nbsp;month<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"668\" height=\"178\" class=\"wp-image-26594\" src=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/best-credit-cards-content-explorer.jpg\" alt=\"best credit cards content explorer\"><\/p>\n<div class=\"sidenote\"><div class=\"sidenote-title\">Sidenote.<\/div> Those numbers are somewhat arbitrary.
