We then extracted the content from these URLs, of which we had 600K in our <a href=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/big-data\">database<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We ran each article through our own AI content detector, which is part of <strong>Page Inspect <\/strong>in <a href=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/site-explorer\">Site Explorer<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1884\" height=\"1312\" class=\"wp-image-189570\" src=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/running-my-blog-post-through-ai-content-detector.jpg\" alt=\"Running my blog post through AI Content Detector\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/running-my-blog-post-through-ai-content-detector.jpg 1884w, https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/running-my-blog-post-through-ai-content-detector-610x425.jpg 610w, https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/running-my-blog-post-through-ai-content-detector-768x535.jpg 768w, https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/running-my-blog-post-through-ai-content-detector-1536x1070.jpg 1536w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1884px) 100vw, 1884px\"><\/figure>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>Here\u2019s what our <a href=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/best-ai-detectors-tested\/\">AI content detector<\/a> found:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>4.6%<\/strong> of pages were categorized as \u201cpure&nbsp;AI.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>13.5%<\/strong> were categorized as \u201cpure&nbsp;human.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>81.9%<\/strong> were categorized as a mix of&nbsp;two.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Of the ones that were a mix of both human and&nbsp;AI:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>13.8%<\/strong> showed minimal AI use (1-10% of the page content was categorized as&nbsp;AI)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>40%<\/strong> showed moderate AI use (11-40%)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>20.3%<\/strong> showed substantial AI use (41%-70%)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>7.8%<\/strong> showed dominant AI use (71%-99%)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1600\" height=\"1604\" class=\"wp-image-189571\" src=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/how-many-pages-in-the-top-20-serps-are-created-or.png\" alt=\"How many pages in the top 20 SERPs are created or assisted with AI\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/how-many-pages-in-the-top-20-serps-are-created-or.png 1600w, https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/how-many-pages-in-the-top-20-serps-are-created-or-424x425.png 424w, https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/how-many-pages-in-the-top-20-serps-are-created-or-768x770.png 768w, https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/how-many-pages-in-the-top-20-serps-are-created-or-1532x1536.png 1532w, https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/how-many-pages-in-the-top-20-serps-are-created-or-120x120.png 120w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1600px) 100vw, 1600px\"><\/figure>\n\n\n\n\n\n<div class=\"sidenote\"><div class=\"sidenote-title\">Sidenote.<\/div>&nbsp;No AI content detector is perfect. Like LLMs, AI detectors are statistical models. They deal in probabilities, not certainty. This means <strong>86.5% of top-ranking pages contain some amount of AI-generated content<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That is to be expected because AI has more use than just simply generating content. You can use it to spell check, improve your grammar, refine your writing, optimize your titles, challenge your ideas, and more. Heck, even this Google Doc I\u2019m writing in has built-in AI.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So, if Google wanted to actively penalize AI content, you wouldn\u2019t expect these kinds of results. If you think about it, the fact that there is pure AI content (even though rare, only 4.6%) in the top-ranking pages already suggests that Google doesn\u2019t punish AI content.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We can kind of expect this to be honest. But bear in mind that the correlation is <em>very weak<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a id=\"post-189566-_1s3f6zbw47vj\"><\/a>Wrapping up<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>From our research, it seems that Google neither actively punishes nor rewards AI content. So, you don\u2019t have to be afraid and avoid AI content at all&nbsp;costs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ultimately, Google probably doesn\u2019t care <strong>how <\/strong>you made the content.
