We analyzed one page per domain (so we tested content from 900,000 different domains). But the longer I sat with the data, the more it made&nbsp;sense.<\/p>\n<p>Free, fast AI content generation is available natively in Google Docs, in Gmail, in LinkedIn. AI can summarize Slack messages, conduct article research, shorten transcripts. It\u2019s actively <em>difficult <\/em>to avoid the big, shiny \u201cgenerate\u201d button, and will only become more difficult as generative AI becomes further embedded in applications.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_187957\" style=\"width: 1338px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-187957\" class=\"wp-image-187957\" src=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/word-image-187955-2.png\" alt width=\"1328\" height=\"760\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/word-image-187955-2.png 1328w, https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/word-image-187955-2-680x389.png 680w, https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/word-image-187955-2-768x440.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1328px) 100vw, 1328px\"><p id=\"caption-attachment-187957\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">An example of generative AI available natively in Google Docs.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>And, as more AI-generated content is created, the new content that <em>references<\/em> that AI-generated content will, in turn, include AI-generated material. The presence of AI content will spread at an ever faster rate, tainting everything it touches to a greater or lesser extent.<\/p>\n<p>If more validation was needed, when I surveyed 879 content marketers, <strong>87% reported using AI to create or help create content<\/strong>. We\u2019ve had great results from testing our content detector on Ahrefs content, but\u2014like every other market-leading content detector\u2014it will never be 100% accurate.<\/p>\n<p><strong>But no SEO metric is 100% accurate.<\/strong> We all use search volume data to shape our strategy, but as we\u2019ve written before, there is <a href=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/accurate-search-volume\/\">no such thing as \u201caccurate\u201d search volume<\/a>. In the same way, AI content detection can be extremely helpful without being perfect.<\/p>\n<p>You can see how much AI content your competitors publish, which models they use, and how that changes over&nbsp;time.<\/p>\n<p>You can estimate how much AI content is present in a particular SERP, and work out if you need to invest more effort to&nbsp;rank.<\/p>\n<p>You can even understand how organic performance metrics, like search traffic, keyword rankings, and backlinks, correlate with different levels of AI use (as I type, we\u2019re running a study on&nbsp;this).<\/p>\n<p>These tools should not be used in isolation to make life-or-death decisions about someone\u2019s career\u2014but they are an excellent source of data for high-performing marketers in the era of AI content.<\/p>\n<h2><a id=\"post-187955-_t74rjzo5qny7\"><\/a>Start using our new AI content detector<\/h2>\n<p>Our AI detection tool is about to launch as part of <a href=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/site-explorer\">Site Explorer<\/a>.
