Some are good, some are bad. Brand monitoring is the most effective way to keep track of these conversations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Brand monitoring is the process of identifying conversations and reacting to them. Brand monitoring on social media<\/h2>\n\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<p>Social media is the fastest way for customers to give real-time feedback on your brand, so it\u2019s often the first place marketers think of when they think of brand monitoring.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To get started, consider which platforms conversations about your brand happen on most frequently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a id=\"post-183211-_5cwd1m7jb69r\"><\/a>Identify social media platforms your customers are&nbsp;using<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Do your customers use LinkedIn, X, Facebook, TikTok, or something else? For instance, at Ahrefs, we monitor Twitter, or \u201cX\u201d as it\u2019s now known, using a <a href=\"https:\/\/developer.x.com\/en\/docs\/tutorials\/get-customized-tweet-notifications-where-you-want-them\">webhook in Slack<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>More simply, we get a feed of \u201cahrefs\u201d mentions in our Slack workspace. We call this sentiment analysis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a id=\"post-183211-_jos4tze0bmtv\"><\/a>Understand the dominant sentiment for your&nbsp;brand<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Sentiment analysis is a process of classifying text into positive, negative, or neutral groups. Brand monitoring on websites<\/h2>\n\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<p>With at least <a href=\"https:\/\/www.statista.com\/chart\/19058\/number-of-websites-online\/\">1.88 billion websites online globally<\/a>, there\u2019s a <em>slight<\/em> chance a few might mention your brand. So, how can you best monitor your brand mentions? class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Head to the <strong>More <\/strong>menu in Ahrefs<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select <strong>Alerts <\/strong>from the menu dropdown<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select the <strong>Mentions<\/strong> tab<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click <strong>+ Add&nbsp;alert<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1148\" This is what it&nbsp;said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1344\" height=\"1368\" class=\"wp-image-183236\" src=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/asking-perplexity-what-it-knows-about-ahrefs-brand.jpg\" alt=\"Asking Perplexity What It Knows About Ahrefs Brand\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/asking-perplexity-what-it-knows-about-ahrefs-brand.jpg 1344w, https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/asking-perplexity-what-it-knows-about-ahrefs-brand-418x425.jpg 418w, https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/asking-perplexity-what-it-knows-about-ahrefs-brand-768x782.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1344px) 100vw, 1344px\"><\/figure>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>The answer is okay, but, interestingly, one of the sources for the answer is one of our competitors\u2014not ideal. If we re-run the same question in ChatGPT, we get a more simplified answer with less detail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1174\" height=\"682\" class=\"wp-image-183237\" src=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/asking-chatgpt-what-it-knows-about-ahrefs.png\" alt=\"Asking ChatGPT What It Knows About Ahrefs\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/asking-chatgpt-what-it-knows-about-ahrefs.png 1174w, https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/asking-chatgpt-what-it-knows-about-ahrefs-680x395.png 680w, https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/asking-chatgpt-what-it-knows-about-ahrefs-768x446.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1174px) 100vw, 1174px\"><\/figure>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>I\u2019m not convinced that either of these answers is <em>that<\/em> great, so what can we do to influence how our brand is portrayed in LLMs? The answer is <a href=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/llm-optimization\/\">LLMO<\/a>. My colleague, <a href=\"https:\/\/uk.linkedin.com\/in\/louise-linehan\">Louise Linehan<\/a>, wrote a fantastic article on this topic, which you should check out if you are interested in this&nbsp;topic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a id=\"post-183211-_abug5xjqk0b2\"><\/a>Research LLM autocompletes<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If you start typing your brand into LLMs, they usually add some autocomplete suggestions below your search, in the same way that Google has done for many&nbsp;years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I\u2019ve provided a quick example using Perplexity below and typing in Ahrefs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1256\" height=\"472\" class=\"wp-image-183238\" src=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/ahrefs-autocompletes-on-perplexity.png\" alt=\"Ahrefs Autocompletes on Perplexity\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/ahrefs-autocompletes-on-perplexity.png 1256w, https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/ahrefs-autocompletes-on-perplexity-680x256.png 680w, https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/ahrefs-autocompletes-on-perplexity-768x289.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1256px) 100vw, 1256px\"><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>For Ahrefs, there aren\u2019t too many big surprises here. I think we\u2019ll see three key developments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Increased importance of&nbsp;LLMs<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>More advanced sentiment analysis<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>More Reddit<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a id=\"post-183211-_uadw7ql0lgan\"><\/a>Increased importance of brand monitoring on&nbsp;LLMs<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Brand monitoring currently concentrates on social media, but I believe that as LLMs become more influential, we\u2019ll see more brand monitoring on LLMs as well as websites and social media.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At Ahrefs, we already get a constant stream of leads from ChatGPT, so it doesn\u2019t seem that farfetched to believe that monitoring how your brand is represented on LLMs will soon become more important.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"520\" height=\"1110\" class=\"wp-image-183239\" src=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/screenshot-of-leads-for-ahrefs-from-chatgpt.png\" alt=\"Screenshot Of Leads For Ahrefs From ChatGPT\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/screenshot-of-leads-for-ahrefs-from-chatgpt.png 520w, https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/screenshot-of-leads-for-ahrefs-from-chatgpt-199x425.png 199w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 520px) 100vw, 520px\"><\/figure>\n\n\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a id=\"post-183211-_6kml6tkn6lt4\"><\/a>More advanced sentiment analysis<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>At the moment, sentiment analysis is generally categorized into positive, negative, and neutral categories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although this is useful at a basic level, it doesn\u2019t give much indication of the more nuanced emotions and feelings behind these categorizations. I think it\u2019s fair to say that more advanced emotional sentiment analysis will become more popular in the future as it will help you to distinguish more complex emotions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a id=\"post-183211-_sj6uzpv0fndh\"><\/a>More Reddit (yes, you read it correctly)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Monitoring your brand on specific forums like Reddit is likely to become more popular in the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The main reason is that Reddit has become much more visible on Google than it used to be just a few short years ago. But, in my opinion, it has a broader meaning, which includes websites, social media, and now&nbsp;LLMs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Your brand can be mentioned anywhere online.
