Google\u2019s site reputation abuse guidelines originally focused on this kind of third-party spam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But <a href=\"https:\/\/www.searchenginejournal.com\/google-strengthens-policy-against-site-reputation-abuse\/533018\/\">Google recently updated its policy<\/a> to make it clear that site reputation abuse is still possible <strong>even when first-party players are involved<\/strong>. How much is their lost visibility worth? And, is there opportunity for others to muscle in? Here\u2019s what we know so&nbsp;far\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a id=\"post-182633-_w5r0l535kuax\"><\/a>Organic traffic value has dropped by $4M on average<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>On average, the monthly organic traffic value of all seven publishers has declined by -$4,111,485.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the best case scenario, one publication lost $89,000 per month, and in the worst, one hemorrhaged $26 million, according to our <a href=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/site-explorer\">Site Explorer<\/a> data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a id=\"post-182633-_opm2tsnl0u13\"><\/a>Most keywords impacted were financial in nature<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Looking at Ahrefs\u2019 Parent Topics report, it\u2019s clear to see that the majority of lost keywords were financial.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"811\" height=\"910\" class=\"wp-image-182760\" src=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/word-image-182633-9-1.png\" alt srcset=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/word-image-182633-9-1.png 811w, https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/word-image-182633-9-1-379x425.png 379w, https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/word-image-182633-9-1-768x862.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 811px) 100vw, 811px\"><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I also asked ChatGPT to categorize the impacted keywords by industry. 1600px\"><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Of those ChatGPT successfully classified, the biggest category was\u2014once again\u2014finance, followed by legal and insurance, and transportation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here are some examples of those lost finance terms:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>corporate credit card<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>online accounting for small business<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>business bank account with no minimum balance<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>home loan for renovation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a id=\"post-182633-_zdtjgsl0kx1b\"><\/a>Organic traffic dipped most for ecommerce queries<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>I was able to find out a bit more about the kinds of keywords impacted by the affiliate publisher drops, using Ahrefs\u2019 keyword presets in <a href=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/keywords-explorer\">Keywords Explorer<\/a>\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1380\" height=\"647\" class=\"wp-image-182762\" src=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/word-image-182633-11-1.png\" alt <strong>vs<\/strong> macbook\u201d appeared most in the dataset, but ecommerce keywords were the ones that saw the most significant drops\u2014followed by seasonal keywords, and news based queries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We define ecommerce keywords by the appearance of shopping based SERP Features.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here are some ecommerce queries that dipped the&nbsp;most:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>advent calendar 2024<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>airpod max<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>apple headphones max<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>apple airpod max<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>hexclad<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>jolie shower head<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>gabb phone<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>best refrigerator 2024<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>canada goose black friday<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>unbrush<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a id=\"post-182633-_jeoh4xnmiy50\"><\/a>Affected keywords received nearly 2K searches per&nbsp;month<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The keywords affiliate directories have lost visibility for are pretty popular. Average search volumes equated to 1,985 searches per&nbsp;month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At 25, the average difficulty for each keyword was medium-low, including keywords like \u201cbest simple printer\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"954\" height=\"623\" class=\"wp-image-182763\" src=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/word-image-182633-12-1.png\" alt srcset=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/word-image-182633-12-1.png 954w, https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/word-image-182633-12-1-651x425.png 651w, https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/word-image-182633-12-1-768x502.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 954px) 100vw, 954px\"><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This presents an opportunity for independents and other less authoritative sites to gain a foothold.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a id=\"post-182633-_jwucgbl5gu6b\"><\/a>Affected keywords had an average CPC of $2.21<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The average CPC of keywords impacted stood at $2.21\u2014most keywords average far lower, so the traffic dips equate to a fair amount of lost&nbsp;value.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a id=\"post-182633-_7logk8legrj2\"><\/a>A third of the keywords lost were branded<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The data showed that 35.1% of the keywords lost were branded.
