some real-world agency reports that have been shared with me and how different size agencies approach SEO reporting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"intro-tok\" id=\"intro_tok\" style=\"display:none;\"><div class=\"intro-title\">Contents<\/div><a href=\"#\" class=\"expand-dots\"><span><\/span><span><\/span><span><\/span><\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>SEO agencies juggle multiple clients, so time spent on a fixed task like reporting can quickly add&nbsp;up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For example, let\u2019s say your agency has five clients and spends two hours per month on the entire SEO reporting process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That\u2019s over one day per month <em>just<\/em> spent on SEO reporting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For this reason, as an agency owner, you want your clients to be high-paying with standardized reporting deliverables, but this is often far from reality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And it can often look something like&nbsp;this:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img higher the budget, the more tailored your reporting becomes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Let\u2019s face it: An enterprise client probably won\u2019t be impressed by a basic PDF report you generated in 10 seconds using a third-party tool if they\u2019re paying $XX,000 per&nbsp;month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Likewise, a client paying $1000 per month would probably not know where to start if you gave them a 60-page SEO class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Small-medium business (SMB) SEO reports<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Enterprise businesses\u2019 SEO reports<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>But before we discuss the details, let\u2019s explore the main differences between SMB and <a href=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/enterprise-seo-metrics-reporting\/\">enterprise SEO reporting<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<table id=\"tablepress-316\" Enterprise SEO reporting<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The first rule of enterprise SEO reporting is that there are no rules. So, generally speaking, what the client wants, the client (usually) gets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here are a few examples of scenarios that can happen when enterprise clients come on board at your agency and start talking about SEO reporting:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>\u201cWe already have our own in-house report. You can use our template<\/em> [sends you horrible looking template].<em>\u201d<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>\u201cOur old agency had this report, can you do something similar?\u201d<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>\u201cWe want dashboard reporting so we can monitor results in real-time.\u201d<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>\u201cIntegrate your SEO reporting with our existing tools.\u201d<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>\u201cWe want the SEO report to be integrated with&nbsp;PPC.\u201d<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>\u201cWe want SEO to be included in a regular performance report.\u201d<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>As enterprise SEO reporting is often just a chapter of the bigger performance marketing report, the SEO section has to be tailored to exactly what the client wants, with zero&nbsp;fluff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"post-nav-link clearfix\" id=\"section1\"><a class=\"subhead-anchor\" data-tip=\"tooltip__copielink\" rel=\"#section1\"><svg width=\"19\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tableau.com\/\">Tableau<\/a>, PowerBI, or a custom-built solution, plus some data from Google Looker Studio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here\u2019s a snapshot of what that can look&nbsp;like:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1690\" height=\"922\" class=\"wp-image-176612\" devil is in the details.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In short, there\u2019s usually:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>More personalization <\/strong>to the client\u2019s business<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>More tools used<\/strong> \u2013 Rather than having one or two trusted tools for SEO reporting, a \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Big_Six_advertising_agencies\">big six<\/a>\u201d agency will have access to most, if not all, of the <a href=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/enterprise-seo-tools\/\">best enterprise SEO tools<\/a> in the market<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>More reports created<\/strong> and shared with different teams<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1560\" height=\"1078\" class=\"wp-image-176613\" This agency report had a separate content report that they shared with the content team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a id=\"post-176604-_gqifmzc08al0\"><\/a>Media agency report structure #2<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-176861 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/Media-Agency-Report-2.jpg\" alt=\"Media Agency Report #2\" width=\"1932\" height=\"2328\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/Media-Agency-Report-2.jpg 1932w, https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/Media-Agency-Report-2-353x425.jpg 353w, https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/Media-Agency-Report-2-768x925.jpg 768w, https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/Media-Agency-Report-2-1275x1536.jpg 1275w, https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/Media-Agency-Report-2-1700x2048.jpg 1700w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1932px) 100vw, 1932px\"><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>In this example, the client already had Tableau and Google Looker Studio dashboards set up and got most of their data from these two sources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The report was created to communicate SEO activity within the business and educate stakeholders about its&nbsp;value.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As you can see, the focus of this report was organic performance, technical SEO, competitor performance, and dissuading clients from self-sabotage (AMP).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another thing to notice: there is no executive summary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The client just wanted to drop straight into the organic performance, and this was a screenshot directly from a Tableau dashboard with commentary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This client operated in ~20 major international markets and needed a summary of the most important movements within those markets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This report was mainly used to educate other stakeholders on SEO\u2019s benefits and <a href=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/seo-buy-in\/\">gain buy-in for further SEO improvements<\/a> to the website. As you can see, a single report or dashboard is rarely enough for most enterprise SEO clients.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a id=\"post-176604-_3xk039sko0rh\"><\/a>Client 1<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Daily performance reports<\/strong> on core KPIs from Adobe Analytics\/GA 360 with a call if necessary<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Weekly commentary update<\/strong> with SEO performance highlights using Ahrefs, Pi Datametrics, GSC, and other&nbsp;tools<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Weekly performance call<\/strong> to discuss performance for the&nbsp;week<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Bi-weekly call <\/strong>with the development team to discuss priorities, notes written up using Confluence and Jira tickets submitted<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Monthly multi-channel performance report<\/strong> slides presented in person to highlight key wins and discuss strategy<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a id=\"post-176604-_xa5me6lnchae\"><\/a>Client 2<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Weekly report <\/strong>with call notes taken on Trello for the marketing team<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Weekly report spreadsheet<\/strong>, data from Adobe Analytics, discussed in&nbsp;call<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Monthly multi-channel performance report<\/strong> in person or video&nbsp;call<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Quarterly business review<\/strong> in person to discuss strategy<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a id=\"post-176604-_nb5pi8x7ozbu\"><\/a>Client 3<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Weekly call with notes<\/strong> written on Confluence and submitting JIRA tickets for development requests<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Monthly report <\/strong>using slides and presented through video&nbsp;call<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a id=\"post-176604-_qg8li3om2g9l\"><\/a>Final thoughts<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The type of SEO reporting an agency delivers usually depends on your client\u2019s budget. At SMB level, it\u2019s easier to standardize elements of SEO reporting, but at enterprise level, sometimes you have to throw your trusty templates out the window and start from scratch. As every client is different, their reporting needs will differ too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>SEO reporting is an art for many SEO agencies. Do it well, and clients will give even poor-performing SEO campaigns a second chance.
