Fill in keyword ideas<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Keywords are the words and phrases people type into Google to find what they want. Unless you target a keyword with some popularity, there\u2019s no point in even ranking number one as you\u2019ll get no traffic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To find keywords worth targeting, you need to do keyword research.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you\u2019re new to the process, start by entering a broad topic related to your industry into Ahrefs\u2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/keyword-generator\">free keyword generator<\/a>. Record search intent<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Search intent is the reason behind the Google search. In other words, what is the searcher looking for? Unless you create content that aligns with search intent, you\u2019re going to have a hard time ranking for your target keyword.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>How do you know what searchers are looking for? Look at the current top 10 search results. So, in this case, the answer to the question is \u201cno\u201d because you can\u2019t create this type of content on a&nbsp;blog.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, the answer would be \u201cyes\u201d for the keyword \u201ccoffee maker with grinder\u201d because all the top-ranking results are listicle blog&nbsp;posts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Would ranking that type of content be lucrative for my business?<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Let\u2019s run with the coffee blog example\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If the keyword is \u201ccoffee maker with grinder, \u201d the answer is \u201cyes\u201d because searchers want a listicle of the best products. People just want a quick answer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">4. Plan your content<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>It isn\u2019t enough to create the type and format of content people are looking for. You also need to make sure that it covers key subtopics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>How do you know what these are? Publish and optimize your content<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Most of the \u201coptimization\u201d happens during the content creation process. Plan link building efforts (if necessary)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Links are one of Google\u2019s strongest ranking factors, so you\u2019ll probably need to stand any chance at ranking high for any remotely competitive keyword.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Unfortunately, getting them can be <em>very<\/em> challenging.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you\u2019re completely new to the whole thing, the easiest starting point is to pitch guest posts to a few sites in your industry. Just go to the <strong>Search Performance<\/strong> report, then filter for your URL and target keyword.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you want to see actual ranking positions rather than averages (which most of us do), sign up for a free <a href=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/webmaster-tools\">Ahrefs Webmaster Tools (AWT)<\/a> account, then go to the <strong>Organic Keywords<\/strong> report in Site Explorer and filter for your target keyword.
