Another month of hard work for Ahrefs team is over. Which means it\u2019s time we report our progress to you.<\/p>\n

So here\u2019s what we\u2019ve been up to in June:<\/p>\n

0. Backend magic<\/h2>\n

Because Ahrefs is a big data company<\/a>, a fair share of all development work is happening on the backend. (Which means it might not be as visible to our users as the features that we add to our interface.)<\/em><\/p>\n

Here\u2019s a snapshot of what is being brewed at our server racks right now:<\/p>\n

  1. Better scheduler for web crawler is at the testing stage.<\/strong> (This is a long term project we started in 2016.) - this will affect how we prioritise crawling and re-crawling of pages and should drastically improve link discovery.<\/li>\n
  2. JS links crawling is now at second Beta<\/strong> (i.e. very close to release) - afaik, none of the commercial crawlers can handle links in JS as of today. Hopefully Ahrefs will be the first to crack this.<\/li>\n
  3. Better support of new web standards for data markup.<\/strong><\/li>\n
  4. Improvements to DR algorithm<\/strong><\/li>\n
  5. Counters of internal backlinks<\/strong><\/li>\n
  6. Support for all SERP features in mobile search results<\/strong> (in new Rank Tracker)<\/li>\n
  7. Improvements in crawling of content in Content Explorer<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Quite a lot, right? And that is just the part that I was allowed to disclose.<\/p>\n

    0. Two BIG tools are (still) on their way<\/h2>\n

    Our focus hasn\u2019t changed much since May. Nearly 70% of all our development resources are still being poured into two major tools: new Rank Tracker<\/strong> and new Site Audit<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

    I posted screenshots of both tools in previous post<\/a>, so here are 2 more screenshots to tease you further:<\/p>\n

    Please note that these are the \u201cscreenshots\u201d of how these tools were designed by our UI\/UX team, and not the screenshots of the actual tools. <\/p>\n

    Which means that the final release might look somewhat different from what you see on the above images. We might remove some things and add some others.<\/p>\n

    As for the release date, I\u2019m pretty sure that Rank Tracker will go live before summer ends. And in case of Site Audit, that\u2019s a much more ambitious tool, so all I can say is \u201cautumn\u201d.<\/p>\n

    1. Ahrefs Academy<\/h2>\n

    I can\u2019t express how much I enjoy jumping on a Skype call with random Ahrefs customers and showing them all sorts of amazing features that they didn\u2019t know they have access to. <\/p>\n

    But unfortunately, this kind of \u201ccustomer education\u201d doesn\u2019t really scale. So there was clearly a need for a comprehensive (and brief) course around Ahrefs tools and data.<\/p>\n

    Enter Ahrefs Academy (https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/academy)<\/a><\/strong>:<\/p>\n

    We\u2019ve teamed up with Kathryn Aragon<\/a> to create 10 short and value-packed video lessons, that take you by the hand and walk you though almost all major features of Ahrefs toolset.<\/p>\n

    (Each video lesson is accompanied by a detailed article, if you prefer text to video.)<\/em><\/p>\n

    This \u201cintroductory course\u201d is just the beginning. I\u2019m already in the process of creating a new one, so watch the announcements!<\/p>\n

    2. Notifications Center<\/h2>\n

    Most likely this small new feature is how you landed on this very article:<\/p>\n

    <\/p>\n

    We believe it is utterly important for our customers to be up to date with all the latest developments of the toolset that they are paying for.<\/p>\n

    Every day Ahrefs team is working on some new things that should make your online marketing work easier and more effective. But what\u2019s the point if you will never learn about them?<\/p>\n

    Hence the need for this \u201cNotifications center\u201d and these \u201cwhat\u2019s new\u201d monthly reports.<\/p>\n

    We figured that displaying a \u201cfacebook-style\u201d notification in your Ahrefs account is much less intrusive than sending you an email or a browser push-notification. <\/p>\n

    This feature will also let you know of the newly published articles at Ahrefs Blog<\/a>. <\/p>\n

    <\/p>\n

    We only publish new articles once a week (at best) so you don\u2019t have to worry about tons of notifications flooding your Ahrefs account.<\/p>\n

    3. Link lost reasons<\/h2>\n

    Our Backend Team (yes, with capital letters<\/a>) is now storing more precise \u201clink lost\u201d reasons. Which is now being reflected in Site Explorer reports.<\/p>\n

    Generally, there are two groups of \u201clink lost\u201d reasons.<\/p>\n
