A study by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nngroup.com\/articles\/how-users-read-on-the-web\/\">Nielson<\/a> suggested that only 16% of its test users read an article word by&nbsp;word.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So it\u2019s important to make your articles scannable to maximize engagement on your blog. The easiest way to do this is to use headings or, more specifically, <a href=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/h1-tag\/\">H1 tags<\/a> and other &lt;H&gt;&nbsp;tags.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Headings also have a secondary benefit, as they help to provide an SEO-friendly structure for your article.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here\u2019s what it looks like in practice. But it\u2019s good to link to relevant, trusted sources that help provide context for your content.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Add an author bio<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Adding an author bio is a good way to provide legitimacy for your readers. But a better idea is to use your own original images where possible. They also should ideally be \u201cweb ready.\u201d This means using <a href=\"https:\/\/developers.google.com\/speed\/webp\">WEBP<\/a> image formats for the best performance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When it comes to optimizing your images, you can also use <a href=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/alt-text\/\">alt text<\/a> as part of your basic <a href=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/image-seo\/\">image optimization<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Final thoughts<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Many of the elements of formatting a blog post for search are not difficult.
