This can be your homepage. But in most cases, it\u2019ll be an informational resource or interactive tool. If you don\u2019t have that, read <a href=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/link-bait\/\">our guide to creating link bait<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you\u2019re good to go, follow this process:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Find relevant resource pages<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Vet the&nbsp;pages<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Reach out and suggest your resource<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1. Find relevant resource pages<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The easiest way to do this is with <a href=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/google-advanced-search-operators\/\">Google search operators<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To set yourself up for success, start by doing these three things:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Create a free <a href=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/webmaster-tools\">Ahrefs Webmaster Tools<\/a> account<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Install Ahrefs\u2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/seo-toolbar\">SEO Toolbar<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Go <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/preferences\">here<\/a> and set the number of Google search results per page to&nbsp;100<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Next, head back to Google and type a broad keyword related to your resource followed by this search operator: intitle:resources inurl:resources.html.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For example, if your resource is a keto diet calculator, you may search for&nbsp;this:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1390\" height=\"154\" class=\"wp-image-154248\" src=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/image14.png\" alt=\"Searching for resource pages in Google\n\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/image14.png 1390w, https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/image14-680x75.png 680w, https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/image14-768x85.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1390px) 100vw, 1390px\"><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Next, click the <a href=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/seo-toolbar\">SEO Toolbar<\/a> icon in your browser and toggle \u201cSERP tools\u201d on, as well as \u201cResults metrics\u201d under the SERP settings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1380\" height=\"1066\" class=\"wp-image-154250\" src=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/image3.png\" alt=\"Use these settings for Ahrefs' SEO Toolbar\n\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/image3.png 1380w, https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/image3-550x425.png 550w, https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/image3-768x593.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1380px) 100vw, 1380px\"><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>You should now see an Ahrefs overlay in the Google search results with an \u201cExport CSV\u201d button. It\u2019s also best to keep it quite broad, as you\u2019ll struggle to find relevant results if you go too&nbsp;niche.<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>If you want even more search operators, use <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/spreadsheets\/d\/1ZvbJSRrYoXWhZ58RSF2fNSgAFT7sauLiXa1FLZMWBO4\/copy\">this Google sheet<\/a>. All you have to do is add up to 10 keywords in the highlighted cells, then head over to the \u201cResults\u201d tab where you\u2019ll have hundreds of search operators ready to&nbsp;go.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-154254\" src=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/image15.gif\" alt=\"How to use the resource page search operator sheet\n\" width=\"451\" height=\"465\"><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Finally, you can merge all the exported CSVs using <a href=\"https:\/\/merge-csv.com\/\">this website<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"recommendation\"><div class=\"recommendation-title\">Time-saving tip<\/div><div class=\"recommendation-content\">\n\n\n\n<p>If this process sounds like too much hard work, fill in <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/spreadsheets\/d\/1ZvbJSRrYoXWhZ58RSF2fNSgAFT7sauLiXa1FLZMWBO4\/copy\">the Google sheet<\/a> with your keywords and send them to your virtual assistant along with these instructions:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Install Ahrefs\u2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/seo-toolbar\">SEO Toolbar<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Open this Google sheet: [insert link]<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click the first link \u201cSERP link\u201d in the tab labeled \u201cResults\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click the \u201cExport CSV\u201d button on the Ahrefs overlay in the search results<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Repeat this for the other operators in the&nbsp;sheet<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Use <a href=\"https:\/\/merge-csv.com\/\">this website<\/a> to merge the CSVs into&nbsp;one&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Send the final \u201cmaster\u201d CSV file to me, and bill for your&nbsp;time&nbsp;\ud83d\ude42&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Or, if you prefer an automated solution, use a tool like <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scrapebox.com\/\">ScrapeBox<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/linkprospector.citationlabs.com\/\">Citation Labs Link Prospector<\/a>. Just keep in mind that neither of these are free. You\u2019ll need proxies for ScrapeBox, and scrapes in Citation Labs cost $1\u2013$5 a&nbsp;pop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. Vet the&nbsp;pages<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Not all of the results you scraped from Google will be relevant, so you need to vet them before reaching out. This is a two-step process:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Filter and eliminate using metrics<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Manually review the remaining pages<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A. Filter and eliminate using metrics<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>You\u2019ve probably got far too many pages on your list to realistically vet by hand, but luckily you can weed out most of the junk with SEO metrics.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Follow this flowchart to find the easiest way to get these metrics for&nbsp;you:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1600\" height=\"860\" class=\"wp-image-154256\" src=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/resource-page-link-building.png\" alt=\"How to pull metrics for resource pages\n\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/resource-page-link-building.png 1600w, https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/resource-page-link-building-680x366.png 680w, https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/resource-page-link-building-768x413.png 768w, https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/resource-page-link-building-1536x826.png 1536w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1600px) 100vw, 1600px\"><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>As the flowchart explains, if you have a paid Ahrefs plan and used our <a href=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/seo-toolbar\">SEO Toolbar<\/a> to extract Google\u2019s results, the metrics are already in your&nbsp;CSV.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1506\" height=\"346\" class=\"wp-image-154258\" src=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/image9.png\" alt=\"SERP export with Ahrefs metrics\n\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/image9.png 1506w, https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/image9-680x156.png 680w, https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/image9-768x176.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1506px) 100vw, 1506px\"><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>If not, there are two options:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Bulk check <\/strong>\u2013 Enter up to 200 URLs at a time into our <a href=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/batch-analysis\">Batch Analysis tool<\/a>, or use a third-party tool like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.screamingfrog.co.uk\/seo-spider\/user-guide\/configuration\/#ahrefs\">Screaming Frog<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/support.urlprofiler.com\/help\/ahrefs-api\">URL Profiler<\/a> that connects to the Ahrefs API.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Skip this step <\/strong>\u2013 While you could use <a href=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/traffic-checker\">our free traffic checker<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/website-authority-checker\">free Domain Rating checker<\/a> to pull metrics for each URL individually, it would take far too long. It\u2019s better just to skip this step and vet all pages manually.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Once you\u2019ve pulled the metrics, you can just filter the spreadsheet for prospects that match your requirements. If you\u2019re not sure where to start, here\u2019s my suggestion:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Domain Rating (DR) &gt;=&nbsp;10<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Domain Search Traffic (ST): &gt;=&nbsp;5000<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>This should be enough to cut the list down by around 70%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"sidenote\"><div class=\"sidenote-title\">Sidenote.<\/div> You can also filter the URL column to remove pages from certain websites, like Twitter or Facebook.<\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">B. Manually review the remaining pages<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The easiest way to do this is to open the remaining URLs in batches of five to 10 and review the pages manually. You can use <a href=\"https:\/\/www.openallurls.com\/\">openallurls.com<\/a> to make this easier.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This process is a bit subjective, but you\u2019re basically looking for pages&nbsp;that:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Link out to external resources.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Link to other topically related resources.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Look like someone cares about maintaining them.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>But most importantly, you should look to identify the pages where the addition of your link will add value. Make an effort to do that, and your conversion rate will skyrocket.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For any prospects that don\u2019t meet your requirements, put an \u201cx\u201d in the URL\/target column to signify that you don\u2019t need to pitch&nbsp;them.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-154259\" src=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/image11.png\" alt=\"Tagging resource pages that aren't worth contacting\n\" width=\"542\" height=\"302\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/image11.png 722w, https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/image11-680x379.png 680w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 542px) 100vw, 542px\"><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3. But why stop there? There are plenty of other ways to find even more resource pages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here are three of&nbsp;them:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1. Search for pages with resource sections<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Not all resource pages are pages dedicated <em>solely<\/em> to listing resources.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For example, many of our blog posts have \u201cfurther reading\u201d sections where we list and link to related resources from other websites:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1188\" height=\"316\" class=\"wp-image-154275\" src=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/image18.png\" alt=\"Example of a &quot;further reading&quot; section on the Ahrefs Blog\n\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/image18.png 1188w, https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/image18-680x181.png 680w, https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/image18-768x204.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1188px) 100vw, 1188px\"><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Here are the search operators you can use to find these opportunities:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Keyword \u201cfurther reading\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Keyword \u201cmore resources\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Keyword \u201cother resources\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Keyword \u201cfavorite resources\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Keyword \u201cfavorite tools\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Then it\u2019s just a case of opening each search result, using CTRL\/CMD+F to search for the footprint on the page, and checking that they link to external resources in the section (not just internal resources).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If the opportunity looks promising, <a href=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/find-email-address\/\">find the site owner\u2019s email address<\/a> and pitch your resource.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here are the pros and cons of pitching these types of&nbsp;pages:<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<table id=\"tablepress-180\" class=\"tablepress tablepress-id-180 tablepress-responsive tablepress-ahrefs-width-full\">\n<thead>\n<tr class=\"row-1 odd\">\n\t<th class=\"column-1\">Pros<\/th><th class=\"column-2\">Cons<\/th>\n<\/tr>\n<\/thead>\n<tbody class=\"row-hover\">\n<tr class=\"row-2 even\">\n\t<td class=\"column-1\">Fewer people are doing it (less competitive).<\/td><td class=\"column-2\">Not as many of these pages around.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr class=\"row-3 odd\">\n\t<td class=\"column-1\">Links are often higher quality than \u201ctraditional\u201d resource pages.<\/td><td class=\"column-2\">Their creators aren\u2019t looking for suggestions or feedback, which may mean lower conversion rate.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<!-- #tablepress-180 from cache -->\n\n\n\n<p>If you can build a relationship with the site owner or at least help in some way before pitching, you can overcome some of the cons&nbsp;above.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Final thoughts&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Resource page link building is about as straightforward as it gets.
