It creates a sitemap and robots.txt file. And page speed is fine. But there are a few considerations worth your attention. Let\u2019s dive into&nbsp;them.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"set-preferred-domain\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">1. Set your preferred domain&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Once your newly launched Shopify store is live, picking a preferred version of your domain for search engine indexing and ranking is the next step, a practice known as domain canonicalization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For example, your Shopify store can be accessible at:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>example.com<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>www.example.com<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>example.myshopify.com<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Having your online store available under different URLs creates a duplicate content issue and dilutes \u201clink equity.\u201d Shopify is pretty good at handling this issue out of the box, as it redirects alternatives to the one it thinks is your preferred domain. Use a logical store structure<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Site structure is an essential consideration for e-commerce sites because it helps users and crawlers navigate your site more easily. But it has \u201ccollections,\u201d which are essentially the&nbsp;same.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here\u2019s the <a href=\"https:\/\/help.shopify.com\/en\/manual\/online-store\/menus-and-links\/drop-down-menus\">official documentation<\/a> from Shopify on how to create them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"separate-product-variants\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">3. Create separate products for product variants (not always)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>There are a few ways to think about Shopify product SEO. Product variants, perhaps unsurprisingly, are products available with slight differences.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For example, if you\u2019re selling a \u201cGUCCI wallet\u201d in several colors, this is when you create product variants. Shopify introduces product variants by appending <a href=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/url-parameters\/\">URL parameters<\/a> like <code>?variant=$id<\/code> at the end of the product URL.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here\u2019s what the URL looks&nbsp;like:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><code>example.com\/products\/gucci-wallet?variant=41126125207712<\/code><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"sidenote\"><div class=\"sidenote-title\">Sidenote.<\/div> This is known as a parameterized URL.&nbsp;<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>By default, product variants are <a href=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/canonicalization\/\">canonicalized<\/a> to the main product URL to prevent them from indexing. While ideal in most cases, this can result in a lost opportunity if people search for your product variant.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Case in&nbsp;point:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-145150\" style=\"width: 342px; height: 343px;\" src=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/4-black-gucci-wallet-search-volume.png\" alt=\"Search volume for &quot;black gucci wallet&quot; as an example of searches for a specific product variant.\" width=\"978\" height=\"982\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/4-black-gucci-wallet-search-volume.png 978w, https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/4-black-gucci-wallet-search-volume-423x425.png 423w, https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/4-black-gucci-wallet-search-volume-768x771.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 978px) 100vw, 978px\"><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>In these cases, I believe the best option is to create a separate product rather than a product variant and support it with unique content to stand the best chance at ranking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"editor-note\"><div class=\"editor-title\">Editor\u2019s Note<\/div><div class=\"editor-content\">\n\n\n\n<p>Another option is to index parameterized URLs for product variants with search demand. Unfortunately, this isn\u2019t the easiest thing to do in Shopify. Keyword research<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Like any other e-commerce store, Shopify stores mainly consist of category and product pages. These are the pages that you\u2019ll want to rank on search engines. Here\u2019s how you can do keyword research for&nbsp;them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"find-keywords\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">1. Find keywords<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>You can find keywords in various ways, but using a keyword research tool like Ahrefs\u2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/keywords-explorer\">Keywords Explorer<\/a> is the best starting point. That\u2019s because, for branded products, people will search for the products themselves, and your product pages will target those keywords without much effort.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For example, if you sell a PRS McCarty 594 guitar, there\u2019s no way <em>not<\/em> to target that keyword with your product page.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But if you sell a generic light blue electric guitar, it may be better to target a relevant keyword with search volume like \u201clight blue electric guitar\u201d:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"738\" height=\"148\" class=\"wp-image-145156\" style=\"width: 369px; height: 74px;\" src=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/7-light-blue-electric-guitar-search-volume.png\" alt=\"Search volume for &quot;light blue electric guitar&quot;\n\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/7-light-blue-electric-guitar-search-volume.png 738w, https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/7-light-blue-electric-guitar-search-volume-680x136.png 680w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 738px) 100vw, 738px\"><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>However, it depends on search intent. If the top-ranking search results are all category pages, that probably means searchers are looking for a choice. So you may struggle to rank for this term with a product page.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"map-keywords\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. Map keywords to existing URLs<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Unless you\u2019re just setting up your store, you can probably target some of the keywords you find with existing pages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For example, if you already have a Shopify collection for electric guitars, there\u2019s no need to make a new page to target the keyword \u201celectric guitar.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you want a list of all the indexable pages on your website to help, run a full crawl of your store using our <a href=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/site-audit\">Site Audit<\/a> in <a href=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/webmaster-tools\">Ahrefs Webmaster Tools<\/a> (it\u2019s free).
