Then, it suggests what you can do to improve their performance.<\/p>\n<p>Since the Ahrefs WP plugin focuses on <a href=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/content-audit\/\">content audits<\/a>, it complements other SEO plugins rather than replaces them.<\/p>\n<p>Today, we\u2019re going through how to install the plugin and run your first audit, as well as breaking down the components of your final report. Installation\" data-section=\"installation\">\n<h3>Installation<\/h3>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<p>To install the plugin from WP-admin, search for \u201cAhrefs SEO\u201d in the <strong>Add plugins gallery<\/strong>&nbsp;in WordPress.<\/p>\n<p>Or, install it manually by downloading it from <a href=\"https:\/\/wordpress.org\/plugins\/ahrefs-seo\">https:\/\/wordpress.org\/plugins\/ahrefs-seo<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>After activating the plugin for the first time, you\u2019ll go through a short Setup wizard.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Connecting accounts.<\/strong>&nbsp;Connect your Ahrefs account if you have one. No worries if you don\u2019t; you can opt for a free Authorization code. The free code is temporary and expires every few weeks, so you\u2019ll have to reconnect the plugin each time this happens.<\/p>\n<p>This connection to Ahrefs is needed to pull backlink stats for your articles. Then, connect your GA and GSC accounts to pull rankings and traffic stats.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/Untitled.png\"><\/p>\n<p><strong>Scope of audit.<\/strong>&nbsp;Next, select article categories and pages to include or exclude from the audit. Exclude pages whose purpose is not to rank in organic search, such as \u201cPrivacy\u201d or \u201cAbout\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Schedule.<\/strong>&nbsp;You can schedule content audits to run automatically each day, week or month. Performance score and page distribution\" data-section=\"score\">\n<h3>Performance score and page distribution<\/h3>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<p>Once your audit is complete, each audited page is placed in 1 of 4 buckets based on their performance: Well-performing, Under-performing, Non-performing and Excluded.<\/p>\n<p>Look at your <strong>performance score<\/strong>&nbsp;to see the % of pages that are performing well as compared to all analyzed pages. Setting target keywords\" data-section=\"target-keywords\">\n<h3>Setting target keywords<\/h3>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<p>In the first audit, we\u2019ll try to guess the target keyword for each page based on ranking data from GSC and TF-IDF analysis of the article text.<\/p>\n<p>If you already use other SEO plugins (Yoast, RankMath, AIOSEO) and have specified target keywords there, we\u2019ll automatically assign and sync them on each&nbsp;audit.<\/p>\n<p>If not, we strongly recommend<strong>&nbsp;manually reviewing<\/strong>&nbsp;each suggested keyword and either <strong>approving<\/strong>&nbsp;or <strong>changing<\/strong>&nbsp;it. Suggested actions\" data-section=\"suggested-actions\">\n<h3>Suggested actions<\/h3>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<p>We suggest the following actions based on these scenarios:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Do nothing:<\/strong>&nbsp;If your article is ranking in the top 3 position for its target keyword.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Update:<\/strong>&nbsp;If your article is ranking for its target keyword within the top 3\u201320 positions and the target keyword is unique across all pages, we\u2019ll suggest optimizing your article by updating it with new and unique content.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Merge:<\/strong>&nbsp;If your article is ranking for its target keyword within the top 3\u201320 positions and the target keyword is not unique across all pages,&nbsp;we\u2019ll suggest consolidating the content from all similar articles into&nbsp;one.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Exclude:<\/strong>&nbsp;If your article is not ranking for its target keyword within the top 20 positions but is in the top 50th percentile when it comes to traffic across all pages on the site, this most likely means that this page is not supposed to attract organic traffic. Excluded pages\" data-section=\"excluded-pages\">\n<h3>Excluded pages<\/h3>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<p>The \u201cExcluded\u201d tab contains pages that aren\u2019t audited and don\u2019t impact your performance score. The possible exclusion reasons are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Out of scope.<\/strong>&nbsp;These are pages that you excluded from the audit, as defined in the audit scope during Setup wizard or in Settings. Individual pages can also be excluded or included manually.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/Untitled-6.png\"><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Newly published.<\/strong>&nbsp;Pages need time to start ranking in Google, so we recommend waiting three months before auditing new publications. You can change this default waiting period in Settings.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Noindex page or Non-canonical page.<\/strong>&nbsp;We automatically exclude pages that aren\u2019t supposed to show up in search results.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Redirected page.<\/strong>&nbsp;We automatically exclude articles that were redirected to another page.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Error analyzing.<\/strong>&nbsp;When we send queries to Google API and Ahrefs API, they sometimes return an error. Handy notifications\" data-section=\"handy-notifications\">\n<h3>Handy notifications<\/h3>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<p>On your subsequent audits, we show notifications at the top of your report when:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>There are articles with duplicated keywords. We\u2019ll suggest checking them in case of keyword cannibalization issues.<\/li>\n<li>Some articles dropped from being well-performing. Since they just dropped, there\u2019s a good chance of getting them&nbsp;back.<\/li>\n<li>Your last content audit was over 3 months ago. We suggest running an audit at least once a month to make sure that all pages\u2019 metrics and rankings are updated.<\/li>\n<li>There are unapproved suggested target keywords.
