They also rank #1 for both of these keywords in Google, as you can see from the \u201cTop Keyword\u201d and \u201cPosition\u201d columns.<\/p>\n<p>This report is great for quickly finding some initial topics and keywords that might be worth writing about. If you need more, just repeat the process for more business competitors.<\/p>\n<h4>Content competitors<\/h4>\n<p>Content competitors are websites you\u2019re competing against in organic search but that don\u2019t necessarily compete with you in a business sense.<\/p>\n<p>For example, one of our content competitors is<em>&nbsp;backlinko.com <\/em>because it competes for many of the same keywords. But it\u2019s not our business competitor because we both sell different things.<\/p>\n<p>You can find content competitors easily with <a href=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/keywords-explorer\">Keywords Explorer<\/a>:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Enter the keywords you found when analyzing business competitors<\/li>\n<li>Go to the<strong>&nbsp;Traffic Share by Domains<\/strong>&nbsp;report<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>This report shows the websites with the most estimated organic traffic from the keywords you entered:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/2-traffic-share-by-domains.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p>Run these sites through Site Explorer as you did with your business competitors to find even more topic&nbsp;ideas.<\/p>\n<h3>3. Build a content plan<\/h3>\n<p>Now that you have tons of ideas for your blog, it\u2019s time to prioritize and build your content plan. To do this, you should consider these three metrics:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Traffic potential<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013 How many times a month is that keyword searched for in Google?<\/li>\n<li><strong>Ranking difficulty<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013 How hard is it to rank in organic search results for that keyword?<\/li>\n<li><strong>Business value<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013 How relevant is your product in connection to the&nbsp;topic?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The best topics are those with high traffic potential and business value and low competition:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/4-find-best-topics.png\"><\/p>\n<p>How do you judge these things?<\/p>\n<p>In <a href=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/keywords-explorer\">Keywords Explorer<\/a>, you can get a rough sense of traffic potential by looking at the keyword\u2019s monthly search volume. However, we recommend paying more attention to the estimated traffic of the top-ranking page\u2014as most pages get traffic from multiple keywords.<\/p>\n<p>For example, the search volume for \u201chow to make french press coffee\u201d is 20K\/month, but the top-ranking page gets around 60% more traffic:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/5-serp-overview.png\"><\/p>\n<p>As for estimating ranking difficulty, our <a href=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/keyword-difficulty\/\">Keyword Difficulty (KD)<\/a>&nbsp;metric is a good first port of call. It rates the relative ranking difficulty of keywords on a 0-100 scale (higher = harder):<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/6-keyword-difficulty.png\"><\/p>\n<p>That said, as it\u2019s impossible to distill ranking difficulty to a single number, we recommend you check a few other things before targeting a keyword.
