Some people used to be able to “spam” sites to the top 10 in only a few months. Now, it takes much longer. What this research is showing is 1) Google is protecting older sites that it already trusts in the top 10. 2) New sites can rank within a year if they are optimized properly.

I still see a number of clients come to us after they’ve had another SEO company tell them that they can rank their new site in the top 10 for highly competitive keywords within 4 months. They even guarantee that they can rank that quickly which is highly irresponsible and unethical in my opinion.
